When Should We Praise God?
◈ At all times. “I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth” [Psalms 34:1].
◈ In times of depression. “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God”[Psalms 42:11]
◈ Among the people. “I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto thee among the nations” [Psalms 57:9].
◈ All day long. “From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord's name is to be praised” [Psalms 113:3]. “Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day” [Psalms 71:8].
◈ In everything. “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” [Eph 5:20].
What Hinders Us From Praising God?
There are many reasons why Christians do not praise God. The major reason is ignorance. “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children” [Hosea 4:6].
There are many people who do not know either the importance of praise or how to praise. They do not know which songs to sing and how to lead them. The Bible has vital information we need to know on praise.
One more major obstruction to praise is pride. There is no effective without humility. “And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased, And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?” [Matt 21:15-16].
Perfect praise comes from those with a heart like that of a child. In 1 Chronicles 15:29, King David danced for the Lord like a baby. This is the spirit we need, the spirit of praise. The greatest temptation of musicians is pride. And Lucifer the chief angel of worship fell due to pride.
