Preparing To Be A Worship Leader

Image
My story before we can go any further, I was part of an amazing 70 plus member choir for over 5 years before I moved to play percussion in the band for another 2 years. Whilst I was in my second year in the choir I was just an ordinary tenor singer, I went to a small little church and when they heard that I was from the big choir and they said help us teach us to that which you know and before I knew it they appointed me to be a worship leader in their interdenominational gathering. You must be asking, what's your point? You might just be a singer in a huge choir or small choir it doesn't matter there is a day when you lead people in worship, so let's start learning worship leading. Whether you are a worship leader, singer, ordinary person, musician or whatever, we need to learn and know how to lead people into the presence of God. Worship leaders work through and to prepare themselves to walk into that place and bring glory to God. One statement that was spoken a few week

The Worshippers Battle

Image
Preservation means you are being kept for a good future good use. When you preserve something you keep it in a safe place and your intention is to use it one day and you know that the present moment of time  it's not the season or time. The biggest battle that each worshipper faces is that whoever you are and how long you have been a worshipper  and worship leader you will always find yourself locked with yourself and in a battle. It's easy to sing, dance or play because we can do that and for some people they have mastered it well but you can never be able to win the battle with self. Paul said that the things I desire to do, I do not do but that which I do not want I find myself doing it. The battle on the inside is a big one and we might try to think we have won it but we at times fall, crush and burn. David came up to God and he said in Psalm 121:7 KJV "The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul". David learnt that the whole bat

Opened Eyes To The Spirit Realm.

Being a worship leader isn’t about the voice alone, the team, the band and the killer reefs and turnarounds we make. I personally believe that there is so much more to worship leading or just being worshipper than what meets the eye.   A key place of our lives is in worship whether you are a singer, pastor, church member or even an usher. Worship doesn’t just happen in the physical but a lot of our lives are lived in the spiritual and even when we worship a lot of things happen that we do not see hence we don’t get to appreciate the importance of worship.  “ And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha ”. 2 Kings 6:17 KJV All Elisha did was to pray for his servant to see what He was seeing in the spiritual realm, I guess Gehazi was just all over the place worried sick of the impending danger

What is Worship?

Image
Whilst praise in an expression of admiration and appreciation, worship is an expression of love and adoration. It is possible to admire someone and appreciate what they do without loving them. Worship has to do with our love for the Lord that is, giving Him our whole heart and life. We express our feelings towards God. This is why the greatest commandment is “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind” [Matthew 22:37]. The Bible commands us to worship God. Israel was to worship God as Lord and Him alone. “I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous

Why God Is Fussy About His Presence

Image
From www.ilovejccafe.com So many times we wonder why God is always asking us to Worship Him when He is always receiving perfect worship in heaven. David always made mention and desired to be in the presence of the Lord but then come to think of it. Why the presence of the Lord, why do I have to take time to chase after the presence of the Lord? Someone sent me this scripture a couple of days ago and I was amazed by it and what it stands for. “And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.   Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore ” Joshua 3:3-4   So many times as Christians we are happy just having the presence of God in our lives, feeling Him, hearing him, goose bump

Listening In Two Directions: Listening To The Spirit While Practicing

Image
This Article was written by Stacey Gleddiesmith   http://thinkingworship.com The idea of listening to the Spirit during practice may seem silly. After all, you’re simply figuring out who plays what, when, and making sure everything will go smoothly when it’s time for the real deal. But practice is more than rote learning, or getting our musical ducks in a row (if  only  we all had musical ducks!). It’s also a moment of confirmation and adjustment. Either practice confirms that I’m following the Spirit’s voice or it is another opportunity for the Spirit to interrupt the “me-show” and re-align my plans with his calling and purpose. We may have planned well and thoroughly, and tried our best to listen as we did so, but sometimes our sin-selves still get in the way. As we, with prayer, enact the prayer-soaked plans we made, we  hear  we  feel  the places that are “not quite right.” The spots where my pride, or my agenda, or my selfishness got in the way of my service to the

2 Things To Consider When Worship Leading With The Band.

Worship transcend beyond lyrics, words, notes or chords it’s a meeting place for God and man, it’s a place of man encountering God’s love and goodness. Music is one vehicle that will help us connect and engage with God and in different churches and denominations there is a variety of genres of music in their worship.  King David introduced worship with instruments on a large scale when he institutionalized worship in Israel with the arrival of the ark and the tabernacle of God. Levites where set aside by King David and the priest to be singers, porters, instrument player and help priests in sacrifices. All Levites where divided by family and lineage to do specific tasks.   “ David chose 4000 musicians from the 38,000 Levies in his reign, or one in ten of the whole tribe. Of these musicians, 288 were specially trained and skillful. 1 Chronicles_26:6-7 . The whole number was divided into 24 courses, each of which would, thus, consist of a full band of 154 musicians, pres
