Chasing After The Lord In Worship

Image
In Judges 13 we meet the story of Samson’s birth when an angel came to announce the call of Samson upon Manoah’s wife. The Angel told her she was to conceive and bear a child and no razor would touch his head. She in turn told the Manoah about the visitation. Manoah was absent when the angelic visitation happened to his wife but regardless He chose to entreat (beseech, request for earnestly) God in his own place that the angel visits them again so that they can learn how to rear the child Samson in the manner that he should be brought up. The question is, how many of us are entreating (earnestly searching) the Lord to teach us worship,  Let alone lead us into worship the manner that he desires us to worship. Beyond Sunday are we chasing after God, beyond the four walls of church or mid-week services as worshippers do we have a relationship with the Lord. Worship is a lifestyle and daily experience and I know we are in a world full of things going on, but we need to grow beyond...

What Makes Worship Deep?

Image
Everyone desires to go deeper with the Lord, we experiment with a lot of things, ways, means and all we try to do is take our worship deeper. We try looping songs, we try singing like Hillsong, studying music notes playing like Paul Baloche and we spend all our time practising and sharpening skill. All in the desire to do is to take my worship deeper. “ Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me ”, Psalms 42:7 KJV. One thing I have learnt in these previous years is that depth always follows depth just like in Psalms 42. Have you ever seen people that sing the same song, play like the author but still they will not be able to get to the depth that the author. There is saying “use what you have to get what you don’t have”, when you have nothing you will get nothing. In life you plant a mango tree and you harvest mangoes. Deep calleth unto the deep in you, if the Spirit of God is the depth Depth in your life is ...

Why Obedience Is Worship

Image
Obedience according to the Sage Dictionary is the act of obeying, dutiful or submissive with respect to someone else. It is a characteristic that we have to learn on our own, someone said God is always talking what He is looking for is just a willing life to listen and do. “And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams”, 1Samuel 15:22 . God basically states that he is pleased by just listening and doing his bidding as and when He requires us. The principle of First Mention explains the word in question and the first time the word Worship was used in scriptures was in Genesis 22:15 “ And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you ” the word “worship” in this verse spoke of SACRIFICE and OBEDIENCE and not music or dancing or anything we ...

Created for Worship

Image
Man didn’t fall from the sky neither did he develop from a monkey, what makes you so sure that we developed from a monkey? Man was created by God in his image and likeness not only to take dominion, subdue and multiply but He was also created to worship God alone and to give him all the glory. What God is looking for is communion with men, “ And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden”, Genesis 3:8 KJV. What God looked for was communion and fellowship with Adam and Eve, he would come everyday and take time with them. God still wants that and He wants that with you. What else do you think Jesus did on the cross, just to triumph over the devil alone?   He ripped the curtain into two to allow man, access to God and his presence. God wants us to enjoy, enjoy his presence and his beauty as his children. ...

Worship Lessons From A Bush Church

Image
I attended a rural church service a couple of weeks ago in Mozambique and it was an interesting. I come from church where I play percussion and in our church we have 2 500 people attending service on a Sunday morning, air conditioning with comfortable seating and a huge band and choir with a an amazing sound system. So here I am in a church with 7 Men, 7 Women and about 30 kids dancing and worship with in a newly made pole and straw roofed sanctuary, with clear Mother Nature air con, no sound system and seating in benches and plastic chairs for us because we were guest, the women were seating on the ground on straw mats plus an African drum stick and shakers made from old metal cans. So in my eyes are 15 older people and a group of children singing, dancing, and ululating with huge smiles on their faces. A dust rising as they danced and sung to a drum and the metal shakers playing. When they started praying you can hear gratitude they had to God regardless of the few thing...

Worshipping Without Words and Music Part 2

Image
Worship goes beyond songs, words, notes, chords and instruments. Worship means to pay homage, falling before someone feet, glorifying a deity, honor paid to dignity , kind of reverence ascribing worth. Genesis 22:5 that was the first mention of the word Worship in the Bible, it denoted sacrifice and obedience. Worship in today’s ages and to some people means songs and music, that is 3 praise song and 3 worship songs if there are more than 6 songs at your church on Sunday then you are privileged. Some believe doing a bible study and fellowship for them that is the understanding that they have of worship. Worship is a lifestyle and way of life and today I am talking about worship with our works and we look at what the words says about, “ Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven ”, Matthew 5:16    “ But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such p...

Why My Heart Alone

Why My Heart Alone   Worship in the bible started as an attitude of sacrifice and obedience and with time it became an integral part in Israel with the tabernacle and sacrifices evolving into worship and music. Now we are having so many worship wars in the church over the small little things and we haven’t searched the scriptures to know what the word says, all we know has been passed down from the generation before us.   One of the things we have been told is that worship is a matter of the heart. In the process of time man has detached his heart from his life, it easy for man to worship God with his heart but his mind and body are somewhere else . You hear people say God only looks at the heart and only considers the heart.   True that worship starts in the heart and God is more blessed with worship that comes from the heart but what moves Him or the worship that attracts his attention comes from a broken heart. “ For thou desirest not sacrifice; e...

The Worship Equation

In the bible there are few equations (promises) of God that he pronounces such as a +b = c. Today we are doing one. One such verse knocked my socks away and I know it will knock yours away too. “Behold your house is left unto desolate and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me until the time come when you will shall say Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord” Luke 13:35. These were the words of Jesus to the generation of Jews present on the day. So the equation is:  Your Worship + Your Declaration = Manifestation of God  It’s so simple most of us cry all night long wanting God to come into our lives and change our systems. All you need to do is just stand worshipping God, with a pure heart and declaring that He is God in your life and God will manifest. God does not stay were He is not accepted and where he is asked to dwell he honours it, by abiding there. Until we acknowledge God, until we bless God, until we magnify God, until we worship ...
