The Power of Worshipping At His Feet

A lot of scripture references in the bible speak about feet, especially during the ministry of Jesus a lot of people threw themselves at his feet and worshipped him. My question came around onto why did they focus at his feet or why did they have to throw themselves at his feet.

“In Israel a lot of the people wear sandals more so in bible and the fact that much of the land there is arid to desert conditions and with little or no protective cover their feet would accumulate lot of dust. Custom was when someone enters your house you either provide water or your servant would wash their feet. It is a general rule with the Jews “that whoever anoints his feet, is obliged to washing or dipping.'' and neglect of washing, disrespectful to guest.

“... Behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee”. Revelations 3:9 I pray that God may teach us the importance of worshipping at his feet and use that avenue to open doorways in the natural and spirit world not just for us but also for the people you have we lead.

In the bible a lot of reference are made about people coming to the feet of their leaders because of different reason and today we go through what we as worshippers can learn about worship at the of our Lord.

The feet of the Lord represent

·         Feet are a place of grace and mercy:

“And his fellow servant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all”, Matthew 18:29

In Jewish custom if a servant wanted grace from his master, he or she would fall at his feet, Feet represented a place of grace and mercy and when you worship at his feet you are availing yourself and the people you leading for God’s grace and mercy.

“And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do”.Ruth 3:4

Ruth uncovered the feet of Boaz and this prompted Boaz to marry Ruth, uncovering of feet is signifying that God I need your grace and mercy and Boaz as an honourable man saw it fit to accord Ruth to be the grandmother of David just because she obeyed her mother in law Naomi.

“Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou had been here, my brother had not died”. John 11:32

When Martha had spoken to the Lord Jesus before, she did not convince the Lord into action but it was only the moment that Mary fell at the feet of Jesus that He was moved, wept bitterly and then asked to see the body of Lazarus. Mary stood and cried but Martha came and fell at the feet and cried and Jesus was moved into action. When we worship let us get ahold of the feet of the Lord and receive the grace and mercy and not let go until God responds.

·         Feet are a place of reverence and honour

“And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him”. 2 Kings 2:15

“In reverence to him and as a supplicant, they prostrated themselves at his feet and out of affection to him, caught hold on them, and held them fast. When we show affection, reverence and respect to our elders its fine, its culture and its acceptable in life but when we do the same for God it becomes a problem. If we can honour living people on our knees then why is it a problem when we honour our God on our knees? They say the anointing you honour is the anointing you receive.

“And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him”. Mathew 28:9

“You cannot worship that which you don’t honour and respect in life”. Being at his feet allows you to show forth your reverence and honour.

·         A place of gratitude

“Then she (Shunammite Woman) went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up her son, and went out”. 2 Kings 4:37

Shunammite Woman in reverence of Elisha and with the most profound gratitude and thankfulness for the mercy received she fell at his feet and I believe that when our hearts are right words to show gratitude will not quantify or show forth that gratitude. At that place actions coming from a broken heart are words enough.

The Shunammite Woman just fell at Elisha’s feet and picked up her son and went away. I Pray that as worship leaders we spend most of our time at this place of gratitude and thanksgiving and we see what God will do with us, families, communities and the congregations that we lead.

I Pray that God opens our hearts and minds to understand these spiritual truth and walk in them. God is looking not for extraordinary things God is looking for the people humble enough to lose it all at his feet and hungry enough to pull the extraordinary out of God while they are at his feet.
