Some Scripture References To Musical Instruments In The Bible



Playing an Instrument in worship means prophesying, worship and praising Him, warring in the Spirit, soothing the soul, activity or action that proceed from the heart, joy, praise,  prophesying, ministry of the gifts of the Spirit, admonishing, edifying.

In David's time they where used specifically for temple worship and also used for specific events and celebrations and with time music was played during sacrifices and also at city gates but it was confined to Levites under the direction of its Musical Fathers like Asaph, Jeduthun

Jubal is considered the Father of music when he created music instruments at the start of the bible. And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ. Genesis 4:21


And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. Exodus 15:20

Wherefore didst thou flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and didst not tell me, that I might have sent thee away with mirth, and with songs, with tabret, and with harp? Genesis 31:27

Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets:) It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD; 2Chronicles 5:12-13

And David spake to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers with instruments of musick, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding, by lifting up the voice with joy.  1Chronicles 15:16

That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;
Amos 6:5

Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. Psalms 33:2

I will sing a new song unto thee, O God: upon a psaltery and an instrument of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee. Psalms 144:9

They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ. Job 21:12

Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Psalms 150:4
