Is Your Worship Worth It?

Image
Is your worship worth it, if it doesn’t mean anything to you then it will not mean anything to God? Is it worth it… Worship in the Old Testament was confined to the tabernacle and also to the temple of Solomon. When you look at the bible from Adam until Moses you will see that they were worshippers even without the tabernacle. The principle of first mention of the word worship in the bile is based in Genesis 5:22 where Abraham spoke of sacrifice and obedience as worship. ‘”And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you”, Genesis 22:5 Abraham, Cain, Abel, Noah, Job, Isaac and all the other patriarchs in Genesis offered sacrifices when there was no temple or tabernacle. They would construct an altar which was made of 12 rough and uncut stones which represented the 12 tribes of Israel and sacrifice on top of the altar It was not found in the quantity of the sacrifice but in the gra...

So Who Then Directs Worship ?

Image
Who directs the worship that happens in a church, congregation, meeting or nay gathering that people have to seek the face of the Lord is it the pastor, the deacons, the board or the worship leader. This is the biggest question that has and is still causing church infighting, splits and has caused churches in the past to split and it is such a delicate matter that we need divine guidance to work on it. The devil is set to destroy the institution of the church and if he can distort your worship He would have won that battle. The first and most important thing about worship in a corporate setting is that if SUBMISSION is absent things will fall into chaos and cause dissension. If we don’t submit to each other, leader to leader, singers to pastors, deacons to church boards and then to Christ and to the Holy Spirit we are headed for disaster. Wherever the Spirit of God is there is order and not chaos and whenever everyone is in alignment, the Holy Spirit easily directs the wo...

What Brings God’s Attention in Worship

What brings God’s attention to your worship that is the question? One of the answers would be your response determines the responses of your worship. Another question would be how? Let us then read the word the word of God to see why it is so. On a personal level how do you respond to God when he speaks? Gideon had a life changing encounters of meeting the Lord several times within a day. Gideon story most people know it, hiding in a wine press because of fear and an Angel of the Lord spoke to Gideon and in response to meeting the Angel of God, Gideon offers a freewill offering not asked for but knew that a visitation entails response. God came into the picture as he was pleased with the response of worship that Gideon honoured him with when He met the Angel, so many times God sends us these small things and we fail in our response. When God spoke again that very night Gideon built another altar again and called it Jehovah Shalom and sacrificed to God again his second offering, just b...

A Worshipper That Moved Heaven and Hell Into Action

Image
Mary was a sister to Martha and Lazarus, living in the town of Bethany.  A town  that was about 3km or 2miles from Jerusalem and was situate on the road to Jericho. They were a family of substance (averagely rich) and were well known in the town and the bible states that Jesus loved the Lazarus and his sisters. Jesus in the book of Matthew 26:13 said “Verily I say unto you, wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her”.  After reading this verse I became anxious to know what kind of woman would cause Jesus to say such words in front of a group of people and disciples and at the same time sealing his future. Mary’s life was that of a worshipper, all the scriptures where she is mentioned show forth the kind of life Mary had. The first mention of Mary and Martha, her sister was when Jesus was at their house Martha was serving food whilst “ her sister called M...

The Power of Worshipping At His Feet. Part 2

Image
Part 2 of the importance of worshipping at the feet of the Lord and going through scripture to see the kind of gates that are opened being at his feet with the focus is to understand what we are doing Being at the feet of the Lord from the last issue we saw that at his feet we find grace and mercy, his feet are a place of healing and also that his feet are a place reverence and honour simply a perfect place to worship.   The feet of the Lord also represent ·           Feet represent a  place of healing: “And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them”,  Matthew 15:30 “For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet”,  Mark 7:25 “Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blo...

The Power of Worshipping At His Feet

Image
A lot of scripture references in the bible speak about feet, especially during the ministry of Jesus a lot of people threw themselves at his feet and worshipped him. My question came around onto why did they focus at his feet or why did they have to throw themselves at his feet. “In Israel a lot of the people wear sandals more so in bible and the fact that much of the land there is arid to desert conditions and with little or no protective cover their feet would accumulate lot of dust. Custom was when someone enters your house you either provide water or your servant would wash their feet. It is a general rule with the Jews “that whoever anoints his feet, is obliged to washing or dipping.'' and  neglect of washing, disrespectful to guest. “ ... Behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee”.  Revelations 3:9  I pray that God may teach us the importance of worshipping at his feet and use that avenue to open d...

Why Brokenness Part 2

Image
“ When it comes to being broken before the Lord, which is best: asking the Lord to break us or breaking ourselves before the Lord. Do we either ask God to break us or we choose to break us? “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite (smitten, broken in pieces) heart, O God, thou wilt not despise”, Psalms 51:17.   Brokenness is a state of being living a smitten or shattered life and when you look at all the references of brokenness in the bible you will find out that God speaks of a brokenness of heart and also speaks of brokenness of the Spirit.  A lifestyle where your heart and mind are in awe or God and then we break our bodies through fasting and praying where your will is no longer that which rules but the will of God is supreme. “The LORD is near unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit”, Psalms 34:18 . This verse also says that the Lord is near the broken hearted, ready to hear...

Why Brokenness. Part 1

Image
Brokenness is a pivotal part of a worshipper lifestyle and that is one thing that separates worshippers apart. To break simply means to destroy, shatter into pieces. Brokenness also speaks about humility and a repentant heart and lifestyle “Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder”,  Luke 20:18.   This verse for me embodies brokenness and it explains the life of a worshipper. By reading this we see that brokenness is a choice we have in life either we allow God to fall upon us or we fall upon the rock and this explains a question that I was asked . “ When it comes to being broken before the Lord, which is best: asking the Lord to break us or breaking ourselves before the Lord. Do we either ask God to break us or we choose to break us? A crushed heart is a fragrant heart , have you ever been in a church where the Pastor or Worship leader are just broken people, there is just a sweet ta...

Worship From An Alabaster Flask Part 2

Image
We continue our journey of Worship from an Alabaster Flask with a Part 2 in which we take the account of St Joh n Chapter 12:1-9 . Like we said in the previous article Jesus was anointed with oil twice in his life, at the start of his ministry just after he chosen the 12 disciples. The second time he was anointed was at the end of his ministry in the house of Martha (it was Martha’s house) whose brother was raised from the dead Lazarus and it was just before Jesus was crucified. It’s amazing how the same incident would happen in the life of our Lord and the most amazing thing about these two incidents is that the first anointing from the flask prepared Jesus into his ministry and the last time it prepared Jesus into his death. The worship of both these women met a need that was not seen or conceived by the human eye. I pray that God opens our eyes to understand the value and importance of what we do. Martha and Mary were hosting Jesus and the disciples in their ho...

Worship From An Alabaster Flask Part 1

Image
Alabaster Flask Worship is worship from deep within the recess of the Spirit, it’s not for show off but the glorification of God. It is an overflow from within a heart that is pouring itself before God. There two accounts of women breaking alabaster flask of costly ointment onto Jesus. The first one is the account of Luke which happened at the start of Jesus’ ministry and the other account was 2 days before Jesus was crucified in a village called Bethany in the house of Simon the Leper. Today we start our story in Luke 7: 36-50 where Jesus is just starting ministry and this account of Mark puts Jesus in the house of Simon the Pharisee. A woman who is considered to be a prostitute this is seen in the way they labeled her to Jesus and this woman burst into the room full of Pharisees and Jesus disciples who are reclining at the table eating and she had with her an alabaster box of ointment. She came to Jesus and worshipped him without words She broke the b...
